Weekending

 Most weekends find me at home, catching up on housework, running errands, spending time with the family, and squeezing in homework and knitting with various rates of success. But this weekend my family headed over to Bainbridge Island for my Sister-in-law's graduation from the IslandWood program of UW. We took the ferry Saturday afternoon and Little A looked like she was up to no good, as usual.

 IslandWood is a beautiful environmental education center with several outdoor classrooms and we did a lot of wandering around the center and the gardens. They have a fountain shaped like a cabbage that captured Little A's imagination. A cabbage! A fountain! A cabbage fountain! You get the idea.

Post-paella (really, giant pans of paella cooked over an open fire may be a new favorite of mine) walks in the slightly muggy, but very beautiful, evening and a perfectly still pond. There was also a suspension bridge involved in this walk but it made me feel slightly wobbly on my pins, so no picture. 

I didn't take pictures of the graduation ceremony, the enormous quantities of delicious food, and the never-ending sangria on Saturday night, but I think you get the idea. Just the right amount of travel for an overnight trip with minimal effort on my part and lots of good family time (and knitting). Congratulations, Chloe! Hope you had a wonderful weekend!

Covet! Wednesday

First off, thank you for all of the well wishes. My family is doing well and we're organizing a trip together for the interment of the ashes this Spring. Knitting has been amazingly helpful, the act of creation is...good, healing.

A while ago I posted about Namaste bags and how I was drooling over them in all of their many-pocketed, brightly-colored glory. They've come out with two new styles - Laguna & Malibu. Laguna (pictured) is the one for me so I'm heading over to my LYS where the lovely and talented Jessica Rose has informed me that they've come in from ordering at TNNA. Yay! I've got a gift certificate in my hot little hand to put towards my new, waterproof, roomy, lovely new knitting bag. Update on the Tangled Yoke Cardigan - I'm actually half-way through the 'tangled' part and hope to finish up by the end of this coming weekend. This whole project monogamous thing is pretty interesting, I'm feeling the urge to cheat but I'm so close to finishing!

Why oh why....

Is Ravelry so addictive, seriously! I just can't help myself even when I'm slightly tipsy from cider and actually have to work on a Saturday. I should be in bed but am totally committed to browsing other people's projects until the wee hours of the morn. Must....knit.....this....scarf.....drool.... You get the idea, and yet it happens over and over again. Weee!!! If only I had about four more hands that could knit without conscious direction. Wow. That's a thought.
