"Pump It Up" from Elvis Costello's 1978 album, This Year's Model. I think I may have posted this one before but I recently heard a Mudhoney version of this song which reminded me how great the original is.
For comparison's sake, here's the Mudhoney version from 2010.
"No Pants Policy" by Leslie Hall. Yeah. I went to see Leslie Hall this last Friday at the Vera Project and stayed up way past my normal bedtime to do it. It was totally worth it. Leslie is a crafter and all around badass performer besides being really funny and charming in person. If she's in your hood you should throw down the buckaroos to see her. And yes, she did wear a gold spandex body suit.
"Atmosphere" by Joy Division. Originally released as a French single in 1980, the song was re-released after the death of Ian Curtis as a double A-side single with "She's Lost Control" and again in 1988 with the music video.
"Jolene" by Dolly Parton. Catch the outfits on this one. One of my co-workers at the new job is named Jolene and every time she answers the phone this song pops in my head.
"Make the World Go Away" by Eddy Arnold. I'm feeling exactly this way right now - almost 6 am on a Monday morning and I'm ready to crawl back into bed and pull the head over my covers. I think we can all relate to this feeling.
Last week I wrote that I don't like Christmas music, but there are several songs that I do enjoy listening to this time of year. I'm not sure they're "in the spirit" of the holiday season but I think they mention snow and Christmas and other seasonal stuff that other Christmas songs mention, so there we go.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the Holiday season and all the attending parties, family time, and sparkly lights but the music does absolutely nothing for me. So here you go, Christmas music ErinB style. Happy Holidays!
I have to admit that I'm really not a fan of Christmas music. Being inundated with the same songs over and over and over again doesn't move my Christmas spirit or instill feelings of good cheer the way I think it's supposed to do. So what do I listen to when trimming the Christmas tree? Booker T. & the MGs. Every year I slap "Soul Dressing" on the turntable and give it a whirl while we fancy up our Christmas tree. Give it a try, it's definitely got more soul than jingle bells.
"Sir Duke" from the 1976 album, Songs in the Key of Life, by Stevie Wonder. I'm through round one of the Holiday party circuit and Monday came way too quickly - I need a little pick me up!
"The Killing Moon" by Echo & the Bunnymen from the 1984 release, Ocean Rain. Personally, I need a little easing into my work week this week and this totally fits the bill. Enjoy!
